Gilsonite, or asphaltum, natural asphalt is similar to a hard petroleum asphalt and is often called a natural asphalt, asphaltite, uintaite, or asphaltum. Gilsonite is soluble in aromatic and aliphatic solvents, as well as petroleum asphalt.


Gilsonite is AGC's brand name for the mineral known as asphaltum, uintaite or uintahite, which is found in commercial quantities only in two places the Uintah Basin of northeastern Utah, and in other forms in other nations. This unique mineral is used in more than 160 products, primarily in dark-colored printing inks and paints, oil well drilling muds and cements, asphalt modifiers, foundry sands additives and a wide variety of chemical products.  We are the actual mandates of this product and we are accepting "agents" at the present.
